This Magnificent Carving was professionally executed from burlwood by an unknown artist. The eagle is depicted stretching and perched, and with the fine details carved into the feathers, beak, tongue, eyes, legs, wings and feet, it makes you feels its power and presence. This massive eagle is carved from one solid piece of hardwood. I have seen only one other with the same features and feather design, and it's from a famous Japanese carver.
There is no identification marked on the carving, although, some of the worm trails on the front of the base, look like a signature. It weighs 11 pounds 13 ounces and stands 21 1/4 inches tall, with a wingspan of 25 1/4 inches, and the base at the widest point is 13 3/4 inches. I'm guessing that it's probably from the 1940s to 1960s.
It came from an ultra high-end estate sale in New York.
